The matter converter is the ARC cannon’s most volatile and dangerous operation mode. Not for its intended corrosive effect, but the quantum phenomenon it’s based on.

The ARC’s coils are capable of manipulating atoms similarly to the Earth-based particle colliders of old, including forming exotic forms of matter. One such exotic form is strange matter, which is capable of turning any conventional nuclear matter into strangelets, possibly creating a grey goo-like cascading event that can end life on our planet.

Thankfully, the strange matter produced by the ARC is very small in amount and volatile. The charge it carries is only enough to annihilate targets hit by ejected projectiles.
