“Teleportation” involves matter deconstruction and reconstruction over a large distance. Nanotech companies tried to popularize it, but complications of consciousness transfer have been an obstacle in its adoption.

The term “translocation” refers to a different principle for relocation. Deep space colliders proved the existence of a fourth dimension, and whilst it’s uncontrollable, deployable devices have allowed objects of relative size to physically switch places via this dimension.

Through Rumiko’s and Crusher’s connections, the CSA produced a translocater, dubbed the Switchback. One of the advantages it provides is absolute stomach (and gyroscope)-churning disorientation in translocated opponents.
